Artistic Statment
Often, my work begins with a question: Where do I belong? It’s a question shaped by movement, memory, and the search for home. I’m interested in how belonging is felt, how it shifts, and how it’s held—not just personally, but collectively. Words like be-longing, be-ginning, be-leaving speak to the fluid nature of place and identity.
At the same time, I’m drawn to the idea of looking through—through trees, through porcelain, through layers of drawing and thought. When you hold a porcelain pot to the light, its walls reveal what’s hidden: the structure, the drawing, the complexity. It’s a way of seeing that asks for pause and attention.
I use drawing and functional ceramics to explore these ideas. Porcelain offers a kind of translucency that mirrors the process of reflection—how we come to understand something by holding it up, turning it over, and noticing what’s beneath the surface.
The pots are made to be used, but also to be considered. They invite you to look closely, to think about what’s visible and what’s not, and to reflect on how we navigate the spaces we live in—physically, emotionally, and imaginatively.
